Vinyl Virgins is a monthly column that takes a closer look into the extensive array of the latest vinyl releases, which are currently flooding record stores across the globe. Rather than list the most all the vinyl releases, we have listed the creme de la creme of titles, usual reissues, and best editions that we find in our in-depth research. This month includes an extensive collection of Mac Miller’s Circles (2LP), a criminally popular ’80s rock band, and a boxed set of Lady Gaga.

Mac Miller – Circles (2LP)

Circles are the 6th and final studio record released by Mac Miller. It was conceived as the sister album to 2018’s complete length Swimming and was released with help from Job Brion. Who happens to be the same person that worked on the artist’s previous album. The two continued to work together on Circles before his untimely demise. While sonically unique and different from its predecessor, the new record features, most of the hallmarks that Swimming was acclaimed for after its release by Miller additionally realizing his impeccable voice besides rapping, confessional lyrical content, earnest, and live instrumentation. Listeners will get to hear the fantastic shades of some of the record’s influences on their songs from the Plastic Ono Band period of John Lennon to the T-rex guitar tone and its production. It’s a fantastic entry into the artist’s discography, which remains at the epicenter of reinventing his rapping limits. This fascinating vinyl is due for release on May 29.

The artist’s debut record “If I Know Me” was previously named 2018’s Taste of Country’s top 10 records. With more than 743 live streams to the artist’s credibility, Morgan has been highlighted in CMTs “18 for 2018” newcomers class, selected as the MusicRow2019 Upcoming musician. He has also been named the 2018 Taste of the Country Riser. It is also important to note that he has had tours with some of the country’s top artists (Jake Owen, Chris Lane, Florida Georgia Line, and Luke Bryan). Not to mention that Morgan has also composed hits for Dustin Lynch, A Thousand Horses, and Jason Aldean. The new vinyl is due for release on May 15.

Jason Isbell And the 400 Unit – Reunions

The all-time favorite country singer and songwriter’s new record move carefully and steadily, focusing on the conflicting emotions of the artist’s mesmerizing tales and the group’s textured incredible understatement.

The thorough honesty needed in recovery regimes is an area that Jason Isabel seems to succeed in. It is similar to the artist’s honest approach to answering questions when he turns up for an interview.

Reunions are the 4th album that has been composed and recorded since he got sober, it is filled with images that seem to reflect on the artist’s personal life, something he has been vocal about in public.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard just recently announced that they would be releasing Chunky Shrapnel. It is one of the most fascinating music documentary films ever released, which accompanies a live album. This new record features about 13 live concerts that have been selected from the group’s 2019 music tour. The album includes the latest musical scores composed by Stu MacKenzie, which adds a fantastic touch of the Alien Melancholy across the album. The experience is driven towards the creation of the energy of a live performance and something different ever released by the band. The new 2-LP has been pressed on the gold, white/black vinyl. Prince – One Nite Alone… Live!

After releasing the previous album titled “After The Rainbow Children,” and before releasing the One Nite Alone Studio record, Prince focused on a world musical tour of the same. Nevertheless, unlike the intimacy of the fascinating One Nite Alone record, this amazing trek via North America’s theaters featured Prince’s full talent with his ever-growing new power generation music band. The band members then included bassist Rhonda Smith, Keyboardist Renato Neto, Saxophonists Maceo Parker, Candy Dulfer, and Eric Leeds. Not to mention John Blackwell, who was the band’s drummer. Handpicked from the highlights of the top 9 live performances in April and March of the year 2002, the resulting 2 hours 4-LP collection is a vinyl that you must listen to this May. Some of the tracks that you will find in this new vinyl that is due for release on May 22 includes (Nothing Compares 2 U, The Beautiful Ones, Raspberry Beret When U Were Mine).

Everything But The Girl – Temperamental

As a follow up to their previously well-received “Walking Wounded” and Amplified Heart,” the artists are glad to release this 1999 record “Temperamental.” It is a follow up on from the band’s recent success and features a series of rhythmical pop styles, including hip-hop imparted funk, fierce drum, and the deep house grooves. The album comprises singles Temperamental, Blame, and Five Fathoms. The new vinyl is due for release on May 22.

Vinyl Virgins’ regular monthly column takes a closer look into a wide variety of new & notable vinyl releases that are currently being delivered to record stores across the globe. The following is a list of the new & notable vinyl due for release in April. We do not just feature just any vinyl that we come across, the types of records featured on this list are those that have met our strict selection criteria. Some of the factors that we consider before we recommend new vinyl include production, sound, album artwork, mastering, special features, and others.

Human. : II Nature – Nightwish

When Nightwish announces that they will be releasing a new studio record, people always take notice. That’s because they know something great is brewing. The leader of the band, Tuomas Holopainen, stated earlier that every time he records a new album he always hopes to capture something unique and rare, a true album and monument experience. In the year 2020, the bandleader has all the intentions of achieving this objective once more. The band has recently completed recording their 9th album and has stated that it’s due for release on April 10, 2020. Human.

 

The studio album was recorded between August and October 2019 at Troykington castle and Petrax studios and Finnvox studios by Troy Donockley, Mikko Karmila, and Tero Kinnunen. Mika Jussila was the one who did the mixing at Finnovox.

Shapeshifting – Joe Satriani

It has already been a great year for Joe Satriani, but it seems to have gotten bigger recently among the new & notable vinyl releases. The singer just announced the release of his 18th studio album “Shapeshifting,” which is due for release on April 10, 2020.

Also, in April, the singer announced that they would be embarking on a shapeshifting tour, which will begin in Europe and then move to the United States. The band will include Keyboardist Rai Thistlethwayte, drummer Kenny Aronoff, and bassist Bryan Beller.

As you see, the band’s new album will be released in April to coincide with their Shapeshifting tour that will start on April 15th, in Mainz, Germany.
“Perfect Dust,” “All For Love,” and “Shapeshifting” are some of the big hits that you can expect to listen to in this album.

“Nineteen Eighty,” the first single, goes back to the spirit of the first band, which was named The Squares. On the other hand, Highlights such as “Big Distortion” and “All My Friends Are Here” proves the gift of the single of modifying the lyrical guitar leads, which resonate even after you have left your sound device.

Declaration – The Red

The Grammy-nominated “The Red” seems to have made a comeback with their 7th studio album titled “Declaration.” Having worked with Rob Graves, who is a longtime producer, this LP sees the band return to their initial origins, carefully blending the Alternative hard rock and Nu-metal with aspects or orchestral and classical of the same kind sophomore and debut albums. INSTINCT, INNOCENCE & END OF SILENCE, any record of the last few years. If possible, Michael Barnes’s vocals reach a whole new level of clarity and power, and the riffs of Antony Armstrong are as heavy and sharp as ever. Presaged by big hits like “From the Ashes,” The Evening Hate, the new album that is due for release on April 3, 2020, will, without a doubt, be a great studio album that is worth a listen.
2020 seems to be the year of transition for the Red, as they release their 7th studio album on April 3, 2020.

The New Abnormal – The Strokes

The New Abnormal is The Strokes 6th Studio album that is scheduled for release on April 10, 2020, through RCA and Cult records is definetly among the new & notable vinyl releases. After a long wait, this will be their first album released after seven years.

Before announcing the release of their new album, the band had a live debut of their new track “Bad Decisions” during the political rally for Bernie Sanders, a Democratic Presidential Candidate on February 10, 2020. It is during this live performance that Julian Casablanca’s, who is the brand’s frontman, announced the release date for their new album.

The Way It Feels – Maddie & Tae

Maddie & Tae just announced that they would be releasing their new album “The Way It Feels” on April 10, 2020. The new album features ten tracks from the singers 2019 Eps. It will include everywhere 1’m Goin and One Heart to Another and five other new songs that the singers have written together. However, the new album is already available for pre-order. Keep in mind that Derek Wells and Jimmy Robbins also produced the upcoming studio album.

The new album features vocals from popular songwriters like Jon Nite, Forrest Whitehead, Josh Kerr, Jesse Frasure, and Laura Veltz which puts it in the new & notable vinyl releases.

Years – John Anderson

Nashville songwriters Hall of Fame member and a country music legend, John Anderson, has just revealed his plans of releasing his new studio album “Years” produced by David Ferguson and Dan Auerback. The new album is due for release on April 10, 2020. The release was announced alongside the unveiling of the album’s title track. The track was written from the viewpoint of an elderly artist with victories over some health concerns.

Sings Elvis – Danzig

Among the new & notable vinyl releases is the studio album from metal/punk powerhouse and icon vocalist Glenn Danzig pays tribute to his inspiration and idol, Elvis Presley. It features 14 mesmerizing interpretations of the most famous Elvis unheralded and classics deep cuts that will excitingly thrill fans of these kings of rock n roll. Essentially, 2020 marks the 3rd decade that the band would be holding live performances. With a 2027 induction in the rock and roll hall of fame and having sold more than 85 million records, there is no doubt that the new album will be a great masterpiece that you should give a listen if you fancy rock and roll.

After Hours – The Weekend

Are you a fan of the weekend’s mesmerizing music style and tracks? If yes, you will be glad to know that the weekend’s latest release, After Hours, will be released on March 20th. This new album features some of the artist’s great hits, including “Blinding Lights” and “Heartless.” It is without a doubt that the Grammy award winner is one of the most significant and successful artists around the world in the 21st century.

In This Moment just announced their upcoming 7th record titled Mother. It is a follow-up of the band’s 2017s album titled Ritual. The new album will be released through the Atlantic Records. Furthermore, the band just released a new video for In-Between.
One of the album members stated that the new album was the band’s Heaviest since the year 2012. It is something that you will also notice when you listen to the tracks featured on this album, most of which are quite heavy.
Moreover, you will also notice that the new record also features several special guests, including Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale, Taylor Momsen, and Joe Cotella.
Mother, Hunting Grounds, Legacy, and Holy Man are some of the global hits that have been included in this fantastic album.

Velvet – Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert, A Queen singer, seems to be making his way back to a solo music career after announcing that his latest album titled album is due for release on March 20th.
The news about the singer’s latest album comes with the release of a new track titled “Roses” that features rhythmic guitar tunes by Nile Rodgers, who is a reputed member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Game and Chic Mastermind. This track follows other great hits that the singer released back in 2019, including the “Comin in Hot” and “New Eyes,” both of which have been featured in the new album that is due for release.

Solo – Gordon Lightfoot

Gordon Lightfoot, a tremendous Canadian legend, just announced that he would be releasing the first record of his new music career on March 20th.
SOLO, which is due for release on March 20th, demonstrates the singer and his great guitar. The singer’s 21st studio record, which is the first album starting 2004’s Harmony.


The singer and songwriter found multiple CDs of tracks he had recorded almost 20 years ago in Toronto’s home office. The newly found tracks had been composed back in the year 2001 and 2002. That was just before the singer suffered the life-threatening fatal abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Father of All Motherfuckers – GREEN DAY ​

Green Day recently announced the release of their latest album by the name “Father of All Motherfuckers.” The new record will is scheduled for release on February 17, 2020, through the Reprise & Warner Records. It is the band’s 13th record today and follows the release of “Revolution Radio” released back in 2016. The band has stated that the new album features about 10 tracks and only runs for 26 minutes, which makes it the shortest album we have released.


Your first listen of this album will be amazing as you will notice the poppy, bopping cut with some clapping hooks. Besides the release of the vinyl scheduled in February, you will also notice that the band has planned headlining shows in Europe, Russia, and Asia.

Supervision – LA roux

A mercury prize nominated and a Grammy award-winning singer, La Roux had made a comeback with a new record since the year 2014 when she released “Trouble in Paradise.” Starting from the vinyl cover to the tracks included in the album, this is without a doubt the record that Elly Jackson has for many years wanted to create. While this is something that might be alarming to some other artists, La Roux’s new album titled Supervision is due for release on February 7 and sounds glorious, unmistakably a precisely just like La Roux. In the album, La Roux features fascinating songs by collaborating with great artists such as Major Lazer, Kanye West, Skream, and Tyler The Creator.

One of the most popular K-Pop band returns on the limelight with a new record titled “Map of the Soul” set for release on February 21. This fantastic selection of great tracks only comes 7 months after the group’s previous record.

Back on January 22, BTS announced the release of this new album, and this came alongside their announcement that they would hold 37 shows across the 17 cities across the globe. Although the tour will start on April 11, the band will perform in different stadiums in Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and The United States.

Ordinary Man – Ozzy Osborne

After an array of massive music videos and cryptic teasers, Ozzy has already set the release date for their 12th record by the name Ordinary Man. It is the artist’s first album in almost 10 years, which is the longest gap that the singer has spent before release new singles. And albums under Elton John Collaboration, Straight To Hell, and Under The Graveyard, the new album leans more towards being a heavy metal record.


The album will be available as a digital album, picture disc, deluxe swirl vinyl, black vinyl, deluxe CD, and the standard CD. The physical record will also feature a code that will allow music enthusiasts to enter the code to win a prize.

Trouble No More – The Allman Brothers Band

The current members of this group have recently announced that they would be coming together for their 50th-anniversary tour at the Madison Square Garden in New York. Set for release on February 28, Trouble No More is a mesmerizing record that will mark the group’s milestone in releasing fantastic records.

Due on February 28, Trouble No More will be accessible digitally, 5 – CD set, and 10 LP vinyl. The vinyl selection is to be repackaged in a wrapped slipcase and features a 56-page collection. Huey Lewis & The News have recently announced the release of their newest record titled “Weather” and this is due for release on February 14, 2020.

After the group split with Jonathan, the band started professional tours, got signed with the Charisma Records and then released Trespass back in 1970 in a rock style. Last year saw the vinyl sales upsurge for an 11th consecutive year, with 10 in 100 physical albums purchased being on wax. WHO HMV Exclusive – The WHO

You can never go wrong listening to The Who band masterpiece releases. It is a fantastic all-time great live band that has sold over 100 million albums around the world, 10 UK and 9 US top 10 records, and 14 UK top 10 singles in a career that has spanned more than 60 decades. Now, almost 55 years since the group made their debut. The incredible rock stars are back with their new record in 13 years titled WHO due for release on December 6, 2019. The 11 track record, mostly recorded in Los Angeles and London during the summer and spring of 2019. The record was co-produced by D.Sardy, Pete Townsend, and Dave Eringa, who produced the album’s vocals. The songwriter and guitarist Pete Townsend and singer Roger Daltrey are joined on the record by the band’s longtime bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Zak Starkey. Significant contributions have also been made by Gordon Giltrap, Joey Waronker, Carla Azar, Benmont Tench, and Simon Townsend.

Watchmen: Volume 3 Music From The HBO Series–Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross

The Oscar-winning duo of Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor will release the fascinating tracks they composed for HBO’s “Watchmen Series” in three volumes. The first, second, and third volumes will be released on November 4, 25, and December 16, respectively. The good news is that these great tracks will be available both on vinyl and digitally. Ross and Reznor planned this trilogy with HBO’s series’ writers. All the albums will have an artwork showcasing the show’s mythology, which is largely based on Dave Gibbons and Allan Moore Award-winning graphic book.

What You See Is What You Get–Luke Combs

In his upcoming album “What you see is what you get” Luke Combs lays everything on the table. An unapologetic, stunning anthem, Luke Combs, a North Carolina native, says it all in this album. The singer spells out his identity in simple English. The singer will release the album as a follow-up to his 2017’s debut “This One’s for You” on November 8, 2019, but the vinyl will not be up for release until December 6, 2019. The singer has already released the full list of tracks featured in the album, which includes a fascinating collaboration with Eric Church “Does to Me.” This will be a great track to listen to, considering that Luke already stated that Eric Church is his chief mentor. Other singers featured on the album include Brooks and Dunn.

Western Stars: Songs from the Film – Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen is accompanying his new film western stars, based on a recent solo album with a record that features the LPs tracks live recordings with a new cover “Rhinestone Cowboy,” originally composed by Glen Campbell.

“Western Stars- Songs from the Film” vinyl will be released on December 13, 2019, a few days after the film arrived in the theaters. The album features the singer backed by a live band, including a full orchestra and his wife (Patti Scialfa), as the singer performs Western Stars. The album audio is directly pulled from the “cinematic retelling” of Springsteen’s 2018 LP. Just like the film, the soundtrack ends with a riveting cover of Glen Campbell’s hit singer “Rhinestone Cowboy.”

Final Reflections – Peter Ulrich Collaboration

The collaboration is Peter Ulrich’s brainchild as a former percussionist. This is a once in a lifetime collaboration that mixes psychedelic music, art-rock, world rock, and folk-rock with a global world view that includes the Goth, Steampunk, fictional universes, alternative history, and recalls the perfectly created soundscapes of the Dead Can Dance. The group features incredible songwriting by Ulrich himself, Lloyd, Kathy Shappard, Sara Wendt, and Anne Husick, among others with amazing vocals by Shane Chapman, Jen Elliot, Ulrich, Wendt, and David Steele. As it was the case with Peter’s two previous albums, ‘Final Reflections’ features a dark side and a tale of a very angry android in the dystopian world with the story of a man who rises from the dead. “Final Reflections” features 10 mesmerizing tracks, including ‘Hanging Man’ and ‘Loves Skeleton’, two of the best from ‘The Painted Caravan.’ The album will be released on December 3, 2019 and will definetly be among the new & notable vinyl releases.

Hot Rats 50th Anniversary - Frank Zappa (NEW & NOTABLE VINYL RELEASES)

The Hot Rats will be celebrating its 50th anniversary as one of the pace-setting albums in the history of music. Frank Zappa’s original album released in 1969 was the first album to be recorded on the prototype 16-track tape machine. Described by the artist as a “Movie for your ears,” the album was the second solo release by the artist, and this was the album that marked Frank Zappa’s place among the musical legends and as a fantastic guitarist. A wealth of material was produced from the recording sessions. It gets even better to know that the artist’s most influential and famous releases, “Hot Rats,” would be getting a full re-issue and remaster as vinyl on December 20, 2019 and will be among the new & notable vinyl releases.

The extensive new collection compiles and documents all compositions recorded for several days back in July 1969 when the artist recorded Hot Rats. It’s filled with a series of unedited and rare mixes, relevant vault nuggets, work mixes, and an array of basic singles mixed from the first multi-track master tapes created by Craig Parker Adams and crafted by Bob Ludwig in 2019. The record offers a stunning look into the creation of a classic record. Essentially, the album includes every musical composition that was made during the Hot Rats’ iconic sessions.

Bob Dylan - Travelin’ Thru, 1967 - 1969: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 15

The latest series in the highly applauded Bob Dylan’s chapter revisiting Bob’s music journey to Nashville, beginning from 1967 to 1969. Focusing on records that were not available previously written for John Wesley Harding between October 17 and November 6, 1967. And Nashville’s skyline back in 1969 as they introduced a new track “Western Road.” LP2 and LP3 are both centered on Dylan’s collaboration with Johnny Cash, a renowned American music icon. LP3 ends with songs recorded on May 17, 1970, for the PBS TV special with the Grammy Award winner’s bluegrass banjo legend Earl.

The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed Deluxe (50th Anniversary Limited Deluxe Edition)

The deluxe glut reissues celebrating the 50th anniversary of a few of the seminal albums and moments of the late ’60s has been a blessing and a curse to the musical world. While their fans have time to listen to classics such as Elvis, Electric Ladyland, and The Beetles, the increasing volume of these records has been costly.

The Rolling Stones fascinating multi-platinum selling record Let it Bleed debuted back in the late ’60s, topping the charts at #1 in the United Kingdom and #3 in the United States and is among the new & notable vinyl releases. At this point, The Rolling Stones were already a commercially and critically dominant force; they composed and recorded their 10th long-player in the United States amidst both personal and political turmoil. The second of the group’s four albums with Jimmy Miller, a producer, Let it Bleed amazingly catches the ominous spirit of all time with Gimme Shelter. They now bring the upcoming 2019 remaster about by the 11th time Grammy-winning mastering producer Bob Ludwig.

This fall’s upcoming 50th-anniversary limited deluxe edition includes the remastered record in Mono and Stereo on both Hybrid SACD and Vinyl. And reproduction of the late ’60s Honky Tonk Women 7 mono single–You Can’t Always Get What You Want, in the package sleeve. The box set features 3 (12×12) hand-numbered duplicates signed lithographs.

Leonard Cohen - Thanks for the Dance (NEW & NOTABLE VINYL RELEASES)

The posthumous Leonard Cohen’s record called Thanks for the Dance is coming out this November and is surely one of the new & notable vinyl releases in 2020. It will be out by November 22 through Sony Music Entertainment. 

Until his untimely demise, Leonard Cohen was a master visual artist, novelist, poet, musician, and songwriter with a fascinating body of unique work. That work touched millions in the music industry over an incredible career that spanned 60 years. With over 23 million records across the globe, Cohen’s impact on theatrical and musical artists around the world is enormous. Besides the many Grammy, Juno, and many Global nominations and awards, Leonard Cohen was one of the few artists to be honored as a recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (2010) and also received the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2010). Cohen won the prestigious Glenn Gould Prize (2011) and Principle de Asturias Prize (2011), Grand Officer of the National Order of Quebec (2008), Companion to the Order of Canada (2003) and Canada’s Highest Civilian Honors–Officer of the Order of Canada (1991).

It is Leonard Cohen’s son, Adam Cohen, who has produced and curated this new project working with a massive number of musicians.  In a press release, Adam stated that in composing and prepping the music for Cohen’s words, they selected the most significant musical signatures to keep the musical legend alive. The Rolling Stones - Bridges to Buenos Aires (NEW & NOTABLE VINYL RELEASES)

Bridges to Buenos Aires is the widely applauded record from The Rolling Stones Archive series by Eagle Rock Entertainment. That was a previously unissued concert picture from the group’s Bridges to Babylon Tour of 1997-1998. That comes after the Bridges To Bremen film that was released earlier from a worldwide tour and has been fully restored, remixed and remastered for the upcoming release on November 8.

Bridges to Buenos Aires record is among new & notable vinyl releases because it will be available on digital audio, triple vinyl, limited edition 180 gram triple vinyl in both black and blue editions, Blu-ray+2CD, DVD+2CD, digital, Blue-ray and DVD.

The upcoming release features the entire Rolling Stones April 5, 1998, tour filmed in Argentina’s Capital at the River Plate Stadium. It was the group’s last sellout, 5-night residency. The record is remembered because Bob Dylan appeared as a guest. Dylan joined the band on stage and sang alongside the bands lead vocalist Mick Jagger when performing ‘Like A Rolling Stone.’

This film has been restored meticulously from the original master tapes of the band’s performance in 1998. Also, the audio was remastered and remixed from the band’s live multi-track records. It is a unique piece of work from a genus of the nostalgic night in Argentina.

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Meet You at the Jazz Corner of the World - Vol 2 (NEW & NOTABLE VINYL RELEASES)

As a way of honoring the Blue Note Records 80th Anniversary, the legendary Jazz label is launching the Blue Note 80 Vinyl series. Different from the 1st Tone Poet Audiophile series, this new series engineered by Cem Kurosman and Don Was includes an averagely priced 180g vinyl release in a typical packaging with the records spanning several decades of the labels musical history captured by themes: Blue Note Drummer Leaders, Blue Note Live, Great Reid Miles Covers, Blue Grooves, and Blue Note Debuts.

The club Birdland was crucial for drummer Art Blakey because it is where he recorded 3 live records for Blue Note between 1954 and 1960. They were Meet You at the Jazz Corner of the World, At the Jazz Corner of the World, and A Night at Birdland.

R.E.M. - Monster 25th Anniversary Remastered Edition Explicit Lyrics (NEW & NOTABLE VINYL RELEASES)

The band’s 9th record, Monster, was released when R.E.M’s came off the top of the band mainstream success, following Automatic For the People (1992) and Out of Time (1991). It was released after the band came from a long break itinerary; they had made no tours for their two previous albums. Monster represented the global shift in the group’s sound, the “Return to Rock” with only a few simple plans. This was an acclaimed album that was released to receive significant success worldwide and strong reviews – reaching #1 on the Billboard Charts in over 7 countries. It was after this that the band decided to further promote their record by having their first tour for the past six years. The record includes the singles “Strange Currencies,” “Bang and Blame,” “Crush with Eyeliner” and “What’s The Frequency, Kenneth?”
